Environmental Health Officer Job Description Sample 1:

Job Setting: Provincial Government (Canada)

Duties:

This position involves interpreting, implementing and enforcing environmental health regulations, policies and procedures. Work involves but is not limited to inspections of schools, food establishments and swimming pools; water sampling; investigation of food/water/vector borne illness; site assessment for sewage systems; provision of information to the public, conducts investigations, gathers evidence and prepares detailed documentation to support the Crown’s position for litigation in cases of non-compliance and appears as a Crown witness when requested. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Experience & Education:

The successful incumbent must have an in-depth knowledge of Environmental Health Legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines. Candidates must demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal, investigative and organization skills with sound judgment and the ability to operate independently. These qualifications would normally be acquired through completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in or Environmental Health with related work experience in the Environmental Health field. Equivalencies may be considered. A Certificate in Public Health Inspection, Canada, is required. Applicants must be prepared to use their private vehicles as a condition of employment.
