The Successful candidate will join a highly talented team of software engineers using leading edge Web 2.0 technologies. You will make a significant contribution to the design and development of the industry leading social media monitoring, engagement, analytics and reporting system. The successful candidate will participate in implementations, upgrades, and the day-to-day operations of our MySQL Server environments including Development, QA, UAT and Production systems. They will have new problems to solve every day, requiring new ways of thinking about data. Ongoing duties include the following:

Responsibilities:

- Provide operational support of all database environments;
- Install, configure and deploy databases;
- Design custom data reports;
- Write data-maintenance scripts in shell, SQL, or other high-level languages;
- Interpret database support requests for the direct manipulation of production data;
- Upgrade, apply security patches and hot fixes as required;
- Manage database security, roles and user role assignments;
- Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization of the databases; and associated systems;
- Collaborate with related IT teams to test and implement applications;
- Assist in designing and maintaining backup and recovery strategies;
- Develop and maintain documentation such as operational and installation procedures;
- Participate in change control activities;
Work with development teams to optimize database usage.

Job Requirements:

- Experience operating any major database system (such as MySQL, Oracle, MS-SQL) in an enterprise environment;
- Expertise coding in SQL, Python, Perl, shell, or other high-level languages;
- Knowledge of database tuning, capacity management, and resource forecasting;
- Experience with Linux or Unix;
- Experience working with “big data” (many Terabytes) is an asset;
- General database system knowledge, database theory, disaster recovery, database security, database design, capacity planning, performance analysis, change management; and
- A proven ability to find unusual solutions to unusual problems.
