Under the direction of the Director of Care, the Recreation Therapist is responsible for creating a human habitat and providing care and services to meet the needs of the residents in care.

The Recreation Therapist is committed to alleviating the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom through facilitating small unexpected pleasures in the day to day life of the residents, and by surrendering institutional routines. This is based on the established policies and procedures, Philosophy, Mission, Vision & Values of the Community Care organization.

Responsibilities:
The Recreation Therapist is responsible for the development, coordination and facilitation of therapeutic, leisure and recreational activities for the residents. The Recreation Therapist is also responsible for recruitment, selection, coordination and monitoring of volunteers.

Qualifications:
* Degree in Recreation Therapy
* Certification with NCTRC as a Recreation Therapist
* Education and experience in long-term care, geriatrics, and dementia
* Alzheimer’s and Related Dementia certification an asset
* Standard First Aid and CPR certification
