Job Description:

To administer and provide timely advice and clarity on all contractual company benefit programs in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in the Policies and applicable legislation, as well as the conditions outlined in the Collective Agreements. To support the Payroll, Pension & Benefits Manager and Employee Service Centre Team on benefit related matters and transactions that require a higher level of expertise, intervention and interpretation. To support all budgeting and forecasting of benefit plans for Finance.

Key Responsibilities:

- Responsible for ensuring all benefit plans are administered correctly and efficiently, while adhering to regulatory, collective agreement and corporate deadlines.
- Prepare benefit budgets for the company by employee group and assist finance with analytics and business intelligence as required.
- Provide assistance to Finance and Labor Relations during collective agreement changes as it relates to benefit programs.
- Analyze and prepare monthly insurance carrier remittances.
- Audit benefit deductions and remittances.
- Be responsible for the HRIS system as it pertains to benefits.
- Assist with the ongoing management of vendors.
- Provide functional guidance and direction to employees, departmental managers, plus liaise with the government agencies, insurance carriers and consultants.
- Propose plan improvements to Manager Benefits Administration & Pension Programs.
- Respond directly to employee regarding the benefit issues when Employee Service Centre Team elevates concerns that require a subject matter expert regarding medical, dental, vision and life insurance plans for union and non union employees.
- Research and resolve escalated employee issues with insurers and draft responses with guidance from Manager Pension and Benefits as needed.
- Work with Manager, insurers and internal departments to maximize plan performance and the employee experience, as well as continually improving processes.
- Be involved in the preparation of written employee communications, plan employee communication meetings and presentations.
- Attend Benefit Meeting with Union reps and assist in preparation of related material and presentations.
- Work with Labor, HR and Other Management related to Benefit Plans and opportunities for improved financial results.
- Maintain the benefit information on the corporate website.

Qualifications:

- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation (or near completion) is an asset.
- Underwriting experience is an asset.
- Experience working on medical, dental, vision, life insurance and disability plans is required.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work independently and multi task.
- Strong PC skills, particularly Excel and Power Point is required.
- Experience working with union group is an asset.

 This is a full time position with benefits and requires applicants to have reliable transportation.  A successful candidate will have a minimum of two years surveillance experience in addition to experience conducting scene inspections and taking statements. Candidates should have excellent report writing and verbal communication skills in addition to experience conducting AOE/COE, psyche, subrogation, apportionment, liability, fatality and serious and willful, surveillance and activity investigations.  Investigators must be able to perform stationary and mobile surveillance in a variety of environments, including high crime areas and be comfortable with the use of pretext investigations.  Compensation is commensurate with experience and quality of work product and includes travel pay and mileage reimbursement.  We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
                    

  1. Provides professional, expedient, and legal investigative services as requested by clients.
  2. Performs case reviews to determine case objectives.
  3. Schedules appointments and conducts recorded interviews with claimants, insureds, witnesses and third parties.
  4. Obtains documentation and evidence relevant to investigations, accidents and injuries.
  5. Obtains professional, quality photographs and diagrams of accident scenes and property damage which will meet the requirements of clients and guidelines of court evidence.
  6. Conducts surveillance of both stationary and mobile subjects in a covert manner.
  7. Obtains professional, quality video and photographs which will meet the requirements of clients and guidelines of court evidence.
  8. Types concise and accurate reports depicting all aspects of the progression of an investigation. 
  9. Completes case objective within budgetary constraints.
  10. Maintains daily contact with management regarding case activity.

  12. Maintains professional attitude and appearance when representing the company to clients, court personnel, and others during work related interaction. 
  13. Verbally/electronically (e-mail) update clients regarding case activity on a daily basis.

 


OTHER FUNCTIONS: 

  1.  Conducts general investigations such as statement taking, interviews, locates, employment verification/business license checks.
  2. Assists management and co-workers on case activity.
  3. Testify in court as a witness.

 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  2. Must be able to write or dictate investigative reports.
  3. Must be able to work flexible hours and days.
  4. Must have skills to work independently.
